LG Washing Machine
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
The dr error means your LG washer has a drain problem. The washer could not drain water within the expected time. Water may still be sitting in the drum.
Affected Models
- WM3900HWA
- WM4000HWA
- WT7300CW
- Most LG front-load and top-load washers
Common Causes
- Clogged drain pump filter
- Kinked or blocked drain hose
- Drain hose positioned too high or sealed too tight in the standpipe
- Failed drain pump motor
- Small objects (coins, hairpins) jammed in the pump impeller
How to Fix It
-
Turn off and unplug the washer.
The drum may still have water — prepare towels and a shallow pan.
-
Open the small access panel at the bottom-front of the washer.
Place a pan underneath. Slowly unscrew the drain filter cap.
-
Let the water drain out, then remove and clean the filter.
Remove any lint, coins, or debris. Rinse the filter under the tap.
-
Check the drain hose at the back for kinks or blockages.
The drain hose end should sit loosely in the standpipe — not sealed or pushed in too far.
-
Reinsert the filter securely and restart the drain cycle.
Select 'Spin Only' or 'Drain and Spin' to test the drain.
When to Call a Professional
If cleaning the filter and checking the hose doesn't resolve it — the drain pump may be faulty. A pump replacement costs $100–$230 with labor. Contact LG support or a certified technician.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the dr error the same as OE on an LG washer?
They're similar but different. OE is the standard drain error shown on most models. The dr code appears on some LG top-load models for the same drain issue.
How often should I clean my LG washer drain filter?
LG recommends cleaning the filter every 1–2 months. If you wash heavy items or pet bedding, clean it monthly. A clogged filter is the most common cause of the dr error.
Can I use my LG washer if it shows dr?
No — not safely. Water is still in the drum. Drain the machine manually first, then investigate the cause.
