- Filter has been in place too long and needs replacement regardless of cup count
How to Fix It
-
Purchase a new AquaClean filter.
Use a genuine Philips AquaClean filter (CA6903).
Third-party filters may not trigger the automatic counter reset and may not fit correctly. -
Rinse the new filter.
Hold the new filter under cold running water for 15 seconds before installing.
This wets the filter media and prepares it for installation. -
Install the filter in the water tank.
Remove the old filter from the water tank.
Insert the new filter into the tank holder, making sure it clicks firmly into place. -
Confirm the filter installation in the machine menu.
On most Philips models, when you reinsert the water tank after fitting a new filter, the machine will ask if you have installed a new AquaClean filter.
Select Yes — this resets the AquaClean counter and clears the alert.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Philips AquaClean filter last?
One AquaClean filter lasts approximately 5,000 cups. At 3–5 coffees per day, that is 3–5 years of use before replacement is needed.
Can I use a Philips Saeco machine without the AquaClean filter?
Yes. The machine will work without a filter, but you will need to descale it more regularly since the filter normally reduces scale buildup. The AquaClean alert will remain active.
