Code:Wheel
Respawn / EA Apex Legends
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Apex Legends Code:Wheel is a server connection error meaning the client lost contact with the game server.
Change your data center to one with lower ping and check EA server status — most Code:Wheel errors are caused by server-side instability.
Affected Models
- PC
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X/S
Common Causes
- EA game server instability or overload in your region
- Packet loss between your network and the selected data center
- Firewall or router blocking Apex Legends game ports
- VPN adding latency past the server timeout threshold
- High concurrent player load on the data center
How to Fix It
-
Change the data center
On the Apex main menu, go to Settings > Gameplay > Data Center.
Change to a different data center and check the ping values.
Select the server with the lowest ping.
The data center you are assigned automatically may be overloaded — switching resolves Code:Wheel in many cases. -
Check EA server status
Go to ea.com/en-gb/news/ea-server-status.
Check whether Apex Legends or EA servers show as degraded.
Also check Downdetector for real-time reports from other players.
Server-side issues resolve on their own once EA addresses them. -
Switch to a wired connection
Wi-Fi packet loss is a common cause of repeated connection errors in Apex.
Plug your PC or console directly into the router with an ethernet cable.
Even a brief Wi-Fi drop triggers a Code:Wheel disconnection. -
Flush DNS and restart router
On PC: open Command Prompt as Administrator and type: ipconfig /flushdns
Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
These steps clear stale routing that can cause intermittent connection drops. -
Open game ports in your firewall
In Windows Defender Firewall, ensure Apex Legends and the EA app are allowed.
On your router, forward UDP 37015 (Apex game port) to your PC or console.
Port blocking causes repeated server disconnections.
