Internal Server Error
Mojang Minecraft
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Internal Server Error means something went wrong on the server side — not on your end.
The server encountered a bug, ran out of memory, or a plugin/mod crashed.
Try reconnecting.
If it persists, contact the server admin.
Affected Models
- Minecraft Java Edition
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition
- PC
- PlayStation
- Xbox
- Nintendo Switch
- Mobile
Common Causes
- Server ran out of memory (too many players, entities, or loaded chunks)
- A server plugin or mod crashed
- Corrupted player data file on the server
- Server software bug triggered by a specific action
- World file corruption
How to Fix It
-
Wait a moment and try reconnecting.
Many internal errors are temporary.
The server may recover on its own.
Wait 30 seconds and try joining again. -
Try a different server to confirm your game is working.
If other servers work fine, the problem is with that specific server.
Contact the server administrator. -
If you run the server: check the server console for error logs.
The server log (latest.log) shows exactly what went wrong.
Look for stack traces or out of memory errors.
Restart the server if needed. -
If your player data is corrupted: ask the admin to reset your player file.
Sometimes a player's data file becomes corrupted, causing an error every time they join.
The admin can delete your player data file from the world/playerdata folder.
You will lose your inventory but can join again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this error my fault?
Almost never.
Internal Server Error means the server had a problem, not your game client.
The only exception is if you triggered a bug by doing something specific (like using a certain item or command).
Will I lose my stuff?
Usually not.
The server saves player data periodically.
You may lose items from the last few minutes if the server crashed before saving.
