Overheating
Nextbase Dash Cam
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Nextbase dash cam overheating is usually caused by the camera being left in a parked car in direct sunlight.
Remove the dash cam from the windscreen when parking for extended periods, especially in summer.
How to Fix It
-
Remove the dash cam when parking in the sun
A car parked in direct sunlight can reach 70–80°C inside.
Dash cams are rated to around 60–65°C maximum.
Remove the camera from the windscreen mount and store it in the glove box or under a seat when parking for more than 30 minutes. -
Use a sun visor or shade when parked
A windscreen sun shade dramatically reduces interior car temperature and helps the dash cam survive parked in summer heat without overheating.
-
Allow the overheated camera to cool before restarting
If the dash cam shut down due to overheating, allow it to cool for 5–10 minutes (open the windows or turn on air conditioning) before pressing the power button.
-
Mount the dash cam lower on the windscreen
The top of the windscreen closest to the roof gets hottest in sun.
Mounting the dash cam lower on the windscreen (still within the wiper sweep area) reduces heat exposure. -
Do not leave the camera running in parked car mode in extreme heat
Parking mode (Rear Camera Live View or motion detection) keeps the camera powered in a parked car.
In extreme heat this combination can cause overheating damage.
Disable parking mode if overheating is a recurring problem. -
Contact Nextbase if overheating occurs at normal temperatures
If the dash cam overheats while driving in moderate temperatures (below 30°C ambient), the thermal protection circuit or the camera internals may have failed.
Contact Nextbase support for a replacement.
