FP

hOmeLabs Dehumidifier

Severity: Minor

What it means

hOmeLabs dehumidifier FP means the frost protection feature has activated because the evaporator coils have iced over, usually due to a cold room.
The unit pauses to defrost automatically — this can take 30–60 minutes.

How to Fix It

  1. Allow the automatic defrost cycle to complete

When FP activates, the hOmeLabs dehumidifier runs only the fan to circulate warm room air over the iced coils.
Do not unplug — allow the defrost cycle to complete.
The unit will restart automatically when the coils are clear.

  2. Check the room temperature

FP most commonly occurs in rooms below 15°C (59°F).
Frost forms rapidly on the evaporator coils in cold conditions.
If your room is below this temperature, FP will occur frequently and the unit will collect very little water.

  3. Clean the air filter

A restricted air filter reduces airflow over the evaporator coils, making them run colder and frost up faster.
A clean filter helps prevent frequent FP activations.
Rinse the filter and dry it before refitting.

  4. Increase the room temperature

If the room where the dehumidifier is installed is consistently cold, increase heating or move the unit to a warmer location.
Running a dehumidifier in a room below 15°C is inefficient and causes constant FP cycling.

  5. Avoid blocking the air intake

Placing the unit in a corner, against a wall, or inside a cupboard reduces the warm air supply to the coils.
Ensure at least 30 cm of clearance around the unit on all sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

hOmeLabs dehumidifier FP appearing every 30 minutes — is something wrong?

Frequent FP cycling means the room is too cold for sustained operation.
Move the dehumidifier to a warmer room, or accept that FP will continue to interrupt operation until the room warms up.

hOmeLabs dehumidifier FP active for over 2 hours — should I be worried?

A defrost cycle usually completes in 30–60 minutes.
If FP has been showing for over 2 hours, unplug the unit and check whether the coils have fully defrosted.
If the coils are still iced, the ambient temperature may be too low for the defrost fan to work.

Is FP frost protection the same as EC refrigeration error on hOmeLabs?

No.
FP is a normal protective mode that pauses operation while frosted coils defrost — it clears automatically.
EC is a hardware fault indicating a refrigeration failure that requires investigation.
