E24

Bosch Dishwasher

Severity: Critical

What it means

Bosch dishwasher E24 error means the machine cannot drain within the allowed time.
Clean the filter basket at the bottom of the dishwasher — blocked filters cause the majority of E24 errors.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 4 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 6 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 8 Dishwasher
  • Bosch SuperSilence Dishwasher

Common Causes

  • Blocked filter basket — food debris blocking the drain
  • Kinked or blocked drain hose at the back of the machine
  • Blocked household drain or siphon under the sink
  • Drain hose check valve stuck closed
  • Failed drain pump motor

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the filter basket.

Open the dishwasher and remove the bottom rack.
Twist and lift out the cylindrical filter and flat mesh filter from the floor of the machine.
Rinse both filters under running water and scrub with a soft brush to clear all food debris.
Refit and run a short cycle.

  2. Check the drain hose.

Pull the dishwasher slightly forward and inspect the grey corrugated hose at the back.
    Straighten any kinks.
Ensure the hose is not looped below the cabinet floor level — the drain hose must rise to at least 40 cm above floor level before dropping to the drain.

  3. Check the household drain connection.

The dishwasher drain hose connects to the drain under the sink — either to a standpipe or to the waste outlet on the sink trap.
Pour water into the sink and confirm the drain flows freely.
A partially blocked sink drain will cause E24.

  4. Reset the dishwasher.

After clearing the filter and checking the hose, hold the On/Off button for 3–5 seconds to reset the machine.
Restart a short cycle to confirm E24 is cleared.

When to Call a Professional

If the filter is clean and the drain hose is clear but E24 persists, the drain pump or check valve has failed and needs replacement by a technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean the Bosch dishwasher filter?

Bosch recommends cleaning the filter every month under normal use. If you wash heavily soiled dishes or do not pre-rinse, clean it every 2 weeks. A clogged filter is the most common cause of both E24 drain errors and poor wash results.

Bosch dishwasher E24 comes back after every few washes — what is the cause?

Recurring E24 after cleaning the filter points to a slow drain — either a partially blocked drain hose, a weak drain pump, or a sink drain that is partially blocked. Check the drain hose and sink drain, then have the pump inspected if the problem continues.
