C80

Samsung Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What it means

Samsung dryer C80 (also shown as C8 or C8o on some panels) is a Vent Blockage test result.
Samsung's exact wording: 'C8 or C80 indicates about 80% clogged.'
The dryer can still run, but airflow is severely restricted — drying times will be much longer than normal and the heating element is being overworked.

Affected Models

  • Samsung DVE45 / DVE50 / DVE52 series electric dryers
  • Samsung DVG45 / DVG50 / DVG52 series gas dryers
  • Samsung DV9000T / DV9100T Smart Dial series
  • Samsung BESPOKE AI laundry dryers
  • Samsung FlexDry and WashTower units (shared dryer module)

Common Causes

  • Lint accumulation along the full exhaust vent run
  • Outdoor vent flap partially stuck closed or partially blocked
  • Vent run longer or with more bends than Samsung's airflow spec recommends
  • Flexible duct kinked or crushed behind the dryer
  • Filter screen partially blocked despite looking clean (dryer sheet residue)

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the lint screen first.

Pull the lint screen out and brush off all visible lint.
Hold it up to a light — if you can't see through it clearly, dryer sheet residue is the issue.
Rinse the screen under warm water and let it air-dry before reinstalling.

  2. Pull the dryer out and vacuum the duct.

Pull the dryer out enough to reach the back, loosen the clamp on the flex duct, and disconnect it.
Vacuum the dryer's vent port and inside the duct.
Most of the 80% blockage is usually in the first 3 feet of duct closest to the dryer.

  3. Check the outdoor termination.

Go outside to the wall vent.
The flap should open easily when the dryer is running.
Clear any lint mat that's built up on the flap, and check for bird's nests in spring.
Snow or ice in winter can also restrict the flap.

  4. Re-run the Vent Blockage test.

After cleaning, run Samsung's test again.
A pass result is '0 or End': 'The duct system is normal and unblocked.'
If the result is still C80 or worse, hire a professional vent cleaner — they can reach buildup in long runs that household vacuums can't.

When to Call a Professional

C80 doesn't strictly require service, but ignoring it leads to longer cycles, higher bills, and eventually overheating codes (HC4) and lint-fire risk.
Clean the lint filter and the full vent run now — don't wait for it to escalate to C90 or Clg.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep using the dryer at C80 if I'm in a hurry?

Technically yes — Samsung lets the dryer run with C80.
But drying times will be much longer, the heating element runs much hotter (shortening its life), and you're one bad cycle away from HC4 (overheating).
The lint trapped in the vent at 80% blockage is also a documented fire hazard.
Plan to clean the vent within a few days at most.
