Generac Standby Generator

Severity: Minor

What it means

Alarm 1100 on a Generac standby generator means the Wi-Fi has not connected or has been lost.
The generator runs and protects your home normally — only remote monitoring via the Mobile Link app stops working.
Reconnect Wi-Fi via the generator's Setup menu.

Affected Models

  • Generac Guardian 22kW
  • Generac Guardian 26kW
  • Generac PowerPact 7.5kW
  • Generac EcoGen 15kW
  • Generac Protector RG022

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi router moved or replaced after generator setup
  • Wi-Fi password changed
  • Generator's Wi-Fi module out of range from the router
  • Router on a 5GHz-only channel (Generac requires 2.4GHz)
  • Failed Wi-Fi module on the generator (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm the generator is running normally.

Open the control panel and check the main status.
Alarm 1100 is informational only — the generator continues to monitor utility power and start automatically if needed.
The fault is in remote connectivity, not protection.

  2. Reconnect Wi-Fi from the controller menu.

On the Evolution 2.0 controller, navigate to Wi-Fi Setup.
Select your network from the list and enter the password.
The controller confirms connection within 2 minutes.

  3. Confirm 2.4GHz availability.

    Generac Wi-Fi modules only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
If your router runs 5GHz only, enable a 2.4GHz band (most modern routers support both simultaneously) and reconnect.

  4. Check signal strength at the generator.

Walk to the generator with a phone and check Wi-Fi signal strength.
Below 2 bars, signal is too weak.
Consider a Wi-Fi extender or moving the router closer to the generator.

  5. Power-cycle the controller if 1100 persists.

On the controller, press the OFF button, wait 30 seconds, then press AUTO.
The Wi-Fi module re-initialises during boot.
If 1100 still appears, contact Generac support — Wi-Fi module replacement may be needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does alarm 1100 affect generator operation?

No — alarm 1100 only affects remote monitoring and notifications.
The generator continues to start, run, and protect your home regardless of Wi-Fi state.
You just lose the ability to check status from your phone.

Why does Mobile Link still work for some Generac models without Wi-Fi?

Some Generac generators use cellular instead of Wi-Fi.
If your generator has a cellular module, check the cellular status code (1300 series).
Wi-Fi-equipped models report 1100 specifically.
