E1
Omron Blood Pressure Monitor
Severity: MinorWhat it means
E1 means the cuff could not detect your pulse — usually because you moved during the measurement.
Sit still, relax your arm, and try again.
Affected Models
- Omron M2
- Omron M3
- Omron M6
- Omron M7 Intelli IT

- Omron HEM-7156
Common Causes
- Movement or talking during measurement
- Cuff applied too loosely
- Arm position incorrect (cuff should be at heart level)
- Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
- Cuff tube not properly connected
How to Fix It
-
Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring.
Avoid caffeine, exercise, and smoking for at least 30 minutes before.
-
Sit upright with your feet flat on the floor.
Rest your arm on a flat surface with your palm facing up.
The cuff should be at the same height as your heart. -
Apply the cuff correctly — snug but not tight.
The tube should run down the inside of your arm.
The bottom edge of the cuff should be 1–2 cm above your elbow. -
Do not move or speak during the measurement.
Stay completely still until the reading appears.
-
Check that the cuff tube is fully plugged in.
A loose tube connection prevents the cuff from inflating properly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is E1 dangerous?
No — E1 is a measurement error, not a health alert.
It just means the monitor could not complete the reading.
Try again following the steps above.
My Omron always shows E1 — what's wrong?
If E1 happens every time, check that you are using the correct cuff size for your arm.
Omron sells different cuff sizes (S, M, L).
An undersized cuff on a larger arm will always struggle to detect a pulse.
