Er8
Braun Thermometer
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
Er8 signals an internal hardware fault in the ThermoScan's infrared sensor or measurement circuit.
Unlike Er1 through Er4, which are caused by temperature or battery conditions, Er8 cannot be resolved by resting or changing the battery.
The thermometer needs to be replaced or sent for service.

How to Fix It
-
Replace the battery first
Although Er8 usually points to a sensor fault, a severely depleted battery can occasionally trigger a false Er8.
Replace the AA battery with a fresh alkaline cell and try again before concluding the sensor is faulty. -
Fit a new lens filter and retry
A missing or incorrectly seated lens filter can interfere with the infrared sensor path on some models.
Fit a brand-new lens filter from the Braun LF40 pack (or equivalent for your model) and try a reading. -
Clean the probe tip gently
Inspect the metal probe tip for earwax buildup or contamination.
Use a dry cotton bud to gently clean the exterior of the probe tip.
Do not insert anything into the sensor opening inside the probe.
If contamination reached the sensor, the unit may need professional cleaning. -
Contact Braun support for a replacement
If Er8 persists after a fresh battery and new lens filter, the infrared sensor is faulty.
