E1
Honeywell Portable Air Conditioner
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Honeywell portable AC error E1 indicates the ambient temperature sensor has failed or is reading outside its valid range.
Unplug the unit for 15 minutes and restart.
If E1 persists, the sensor needs professional replacement.
How to Fix It
-
Unplug and wait 15 minutes
Disconnect from the wall socket for at least 15 minutes.
Many E1 errors are temporary and clear after a full power reset that allows the sensor circuit to discharge and reinitialise. -
Check the operating temperature
Honeywell portable ACs have an operating range (typically 16°C–35°C / 60°F–95°F).
Operating below the minimum temperature can cause the ambient sensor to read an out-of-range value and trigger E1. -
Ensure the sensor area is not obstructed
The ambient temperature sensor is located near the air intake.
Make sure the intake grille is not blocked by furniture, curtains, or walls that could create a temperature microclimate around the sensor. -
Move the unit away from heat sources
Placing the portable AC near a heat source (lamp, oven, direct sunlight) can cause the temperature sensor to read a high value and trigger E1 as an overtemperature fault.

Contact Honeywell service for persistent E1
If E1 continues after a power reset and reasonable operating conditions, the NTC temperature sensor has failed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Honeywell portable AC E1 in a hot room on a summer day — expected?
If the room temperature exceeds 35°C (95°F), E1 can appear because the ambient sensor reading is outside the unit specification.
Cool the room or reduce direct sun exposure first.
Honeywell portable AC E1 after being stored over winter — cause?
Long-term storage in extreme temperatures (very cold garage or hot attic) can damage the temperature sensor.
Allow the unit to acclimatise at room temperature for 24 hours before first use after storage.
Does Honeywell E1 prevent all cooling or just the thermostat function?
E1 stops all unit operation until the error is resolved.
The compressor, fan, and all other functions are suspended while E1 is active.
