C6L
Instant Pot Pressure Cooker
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
C6L means the lid sensor cannot detect that the pressure cooking lid is properly attached.
The unit will not start a pressure program until the lid sensor detects a sealed lid.
Most C6L errors are caused by the lid not being fully twisted into the locked position.
Affected Models
- Instant Pot Duo Plus
- Instant Pot Ultra
How to Fix It
-
Remove and reattach the lid
Lift the lid completely off the inner pot.
Place it back on, aligning the arrows on the lid with the arrows on the base.
Turn the lid clockwise until it clicks firmly into the locked position.
Attempt to start cooking again. -
Clean the lid sensor contact points
The lid sensor on the Duo Plus and Ultra is located on the underside of the lid rim.
Wipe the sensor area and the corresponding contact on the base unit with a dry cloth to remove any grease or food residue that may be preventing a clean connection. -
Inspect the lid for warping or damage
Examine the lid rim for cracks, dents, or warping.
A deformed lid cannot make full contact with the sensor.
If the lid is visibly damaged, it needs to be replaced — contact Instant Pot support for a replacement lid. -
Check the sealing ring is seated correctly
A sealing ring that has slipped out of its groove can prevent the lid from sitting flush and trigger a C6L.
Remove the ring, check for damage, and press it firmly back into the groove all the way around. -
Contact Instant Pot support if the error persists
If the lid seats correctly but C6L still appears, the lid sensor itself may be faulty.
This is a hardware issue.
Contact Instant Pot support at support.instantbrands.com — if the unit is within warranty, a replacement lid or unit is available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does C6L only appear on Duo Plus and Ultra models?
Yes.
C6L is specific to Instant Pot models with a lid sensor — primarily the Duo Plus and Ultra.
Older Duo models without a display-based lid sensor do not show C6L.
My lid locks fine but C6L still shows — why?
If the lid physically locks but C6L still appears, the sensor or its contact point may be dirty or damaged.
Clean the sensor area with a dry cloth.
If cleaning does not resolve it, the sensor is likely faulty and the lid or unit may need replacement.
