C7
Instant Pot Pressure Cooker
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
C7 means the Instant Pot detected a heating element fault or an open circuit in the heating circuit.
Unlike user-caused errors such as burn or NoPr, C7 usually points to a hardware failure inside the base unit that cannot be fixed at home.
Affected Models
- Instant Pot Duo Plus
- Instant Pot Ultra
How to Fix It
-
Unplug and inspect the inner pot and base
Remove the inner pot and look inside the base unit.
Check for moisture, food liquid, or debris that may have spilled into the heating element area.
Dry any moisture with a cloth and allow the unit to air-dry for several hours before testing again. -
Check for liquid inside the base unit
If liquid has entered the base unit through the float valve or a crack in the inner pot, it can short-circuit the heating element and trigger C7.
The unit must be completely dry before any further use. -
Attempt a power reset
Unplug the Instant Pot, wait 5 minutes, then plug back in and press Cancel to clear any stored error state.
If C7 appears again immediately on a dry, clean unit, the heating element or its control circuit is faulty. -
Contact Instant Pot support
C7 is a hardware fault code.
If the unit is within its warranty period (typically 1 year), contact Instant Pot support at support.instantbrands.com for a replacement.
Do not attempt to open the base unit — this voids the warranty and is unsafe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to use the Instant Pot after C7?
No.
Do not use the appliance while C7 is active.
A heating element fault means the unit may not heat correctly or may overheat unsafely.
Stop using it and contact support.
Can a repair shop fix C7?
Technically yes, but the repair cost of a heating element replacement usually exceeds the cost of a new unit.
If the Instant Pot is out of warranty, replacing it is the more practical option.
