NoPr
Instant Pot Pressure Cooker
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
NoPr means the Instant Pot could not build pressure within the expected time.
This is almost always caused by the steam valve being left on Venting instead of Sealing, a damaged or misseated sealing ring, too little liquid in the pot, or the pot being overfilled beyond the max line.

How to Fix It
-
Check the steam release valve position
This is the most common cause of NoPr.
The valve on the lid must be turned to the Sealing position before starting a pressure program.
If it is on Venting, steam escapes freely and the pot cannot build pressure.
Turn it to Sealing and restart. -
Inspect and reseat the sealing ring
Remove the sealing ring from inside the lid.
Check for cracks, tears, deformation, or lingering odours that indicate it is degraded.
Press the ring firmly back into the groove all the way around.
A loose or damaged sealing ring is the second most common cause of NoPr. -
Ensure there is enough liquid in the pot
Pressure cooking requires at least 1 cup (240 ml) of thin liquid to generate steam.
Check the fill level and add water or broth if the pot is under-filled. -
Do not overfill the pot
Never fill the inner pot beyond the MAX line (two-thirds full, or half full for foods that expand like grains and legumes).
Overfilling blocks the pressure valve and prevents pressure from building correctly. -
Clean the steam valve and anti-block shield
Food particles can clog the steam valve or the anti-block shield on the underside of the lid.
Remove the valve cap, rinse it under warm water, and check the anti-block shield is clear.
Reattach both before trying again.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should it take for the Instant Pot to reach pressure?
It typically takes 10–15 minutes to reach pressure, depending on the amount and temperature of the food inside.
Cold ingredients, large volumes, and dense foods take longer.
If more than 30 minutes pass without pressurising, NoPr will display.
My sealing ring looks fine but NoPr still appears — what else could it be?
Check that the inner pot is fully seated inside the base unit.
A slightly tilted inner pot can prevent the lid from sealing evenly.
Also confirm the steam valve cap is installed correctly and not cracked.
