Fan Error

BenQ Projector

Severity: Critical

What it means

BenQ projector fan error means a cooling fan has stopped or is running below safe speed.
Power off immediately — continued use without cooling will destroy the lamp and DMD chip within minutes.

How to Fix It

  1. Power off the projector immediately

Do not attempt to continue using the projector with a fan error.
The lamp produces intense heat that requires active cooling at all times.
Power off and unplug from the wall.

  2. Allow the projector to cool for 30 minutes

Even after powering off, the lamp casing remains extremely hot.
Wait at least 30 minutes before inspecting the interior vents or attempting any cleaning.

  3. Clear the air vents with compressed air

Blast compressed air through the intake and exhaust vents.
A blocked vent can cause fan sensor readings to drop, triggering a false fan error even when the fan is still spinning.

  4. Listen to the fan when powering on

Restart the projector and listen during the start-up phase.
If no fan sound is audible or you hear a rattling or grinding noise, the fan motor has physically failed.

  5. Perform a cold power cycle

With the projector cooled and unplugged, wait 5 minutes, then plug in and restart.
Some BenQ fan errors are triggered by a sensor fault after a power interruption and clear on a cold start.

  6. Arrange professional repair

BenQ cooling fans are internal components not accessible without disassembly.
If the fan has physically failed, contact BenQ service or an authorised repair centre for a fan replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

BenQ projector fan error code 030 or similar — what does it mean?

BenQ numeric fan error codes (e.g. 030, 060) indicate specific fan failures (main cooling fan, lamp fan, etc.).
The cause and solution are the same — stop using the projector and seek professional service.

Can I replace a BenQ projector fan myself?

Technically yes, but it requires full disassembly of the projector body, which voids the warranty and risks damage to optical components.
Unless the projector is out of warranty and you are experienced with electronics repair, professional service is recommended.

BenQ projector fan runs fine when cool but fan error occurs when warm?

This indicates the fan motor is failing — it can spin when cold but cannot maintain speed under heat load.
The fan needs replacing before further use.
