Lamp Error
BenQ Projector
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
BenQ projector lamp error or a flashing LAMP indicator means the lamp has reached end of life or has failed.
Allow the projector to cool fully, then replace the lamp and reset the lamp timer in the menu.
How to Fix It
-
Power off and cool the projector for 30 minutes
BenQ projector lamps operate at very high temperatures.
Always allow at least 30 minutes of cooling before opening the lamp compartment — hot lamp glass shatters easily and causes burns. -
Check the lamp hours counter
Press Menu > System Setup > Lamp Settings > Lamp Usage Time.
BenQ lamps typically last 3,000–4,000 hours in Normal mode and up to 6,000 hours in ECO mode.
A lamp near these hours needs replacing. -
Reseat the lamp module
Open the lamp door on the top or side of the projector.
Remove the lamp by unscrewing the retention screws and pulling the handle.
Reinsert the lamp firmly and retighten the screws.
A loose lamp causes a lamp error. -
Replace the lamp module
Order a genuine BenQ lamp or a compatible replacement for your model (search your projector model number + lamp, e.g. BenQ W2700 lamp).
Install the new lamp, secure the door, and reset the lamp hours. -
Reset the lamp hours counter
After replacing the lamp, press Menu > System Setup > Lamp Settings > Reset Lamp Timer and confirm.
Failing to reset the counter will result in continued lamp warnings. -
Contact BenQ support if the error continues
If the LAMP error persists with a correctly installed new lamp, the lamp driver board may have failed.
Contact BenQ support with your model and serial number for repair options.
Frequently Asked Questions
BenQ projector powers on and immediately shuts off — lamp fault?
Yes.
If the projector starts up but shuts down within a few seconds with the LAMP indicator lit, the lamp has failed and cannot sustain an arc.
Replace the lamp.
BenQ projector lamp error with only 500 hours of use — is that normal?
No.
A lamp failure at 500 hours is premature.
Check that the projector is not being switched off without a proper cool-down cycle, which can shorten lamp life significantly.
Does BenQ have a lamp warranty?
BenQ projectors come with a warranty that may include lamp coverage for a limited period.
Check the documentation included with your projector or contact BenQ support for current warranty terms.
