E11

Epson Projector

Severity: Minor

What it means

Epson projector error E11 means the air filter is clogged and airflow is restricted.
Remove the filter, clean it with compressed air or by tapping it gently, then reset the Air Filter Hours counter.

How to Fix It

  1. Locate and open the air filter panel

The air filter on Epson projectors is usually on the front, side, or bottom of the unit.
Identify the filter cover (a small panel with vent slats) and press the release tab or unscrew it to open.

  2. Remove and clean the filter

Slide the filter out of its housing.
Tap it gently on a hard surface to dislodge loose dust, or blow it clean with compressed air from the clean side.
Vacuum the inside of the filter housing as well.

  3. Replace the filter if heavily soiled

If the filter is torn, deformed, or too dirty to clean effectively, replace it with an Epson genuine replacement filter for your model.
Using a damaged filter risks dust entering the optical system.

  4. Reinstall the filter and close the panel

Slide the cleaned or new filter back into the housing with the correct orientation (usually arrows indicating airflow direction).
Close the panel securely — a loose cover can allow unfiltered air in.

  5. Reset the Air Filter Hours counter

Press Menu > Reset > Reset Air Filter Hours (or Reset All, then select Air Filter on some models) and confirm.
If you do not reset the counter, E11 or the filter reminder will continue to appear.

  6. Test the projector

Power on the projector and confirm the E11 warning no longer appears.
Run for 10 minutes and verify the TEMP light stays off, confirming cooling has been restored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Epson projector E11 error after cleaning the filter — still appearing?

After cleaning, the hours counter must be manually reset in the menu.
If you cleaned the filter but skipped the reset step, the E11 warning persists regardless of filter cleanliness.

How do I find the right replacement filter for my Epson projector?

Find your projector model number on the label on the bottom of the unit.
Search for your model on the Epson website or Amazon to find the compatible replacement filter part number (e.g. ELPAF49).

Can I run an Epson projector without the air filter?

No.
Running without the air filter allows dust to enter the optical chamber and settle on the LCD panels and lens.
This causes permanent dark spots and image degradation that requires professional cleaning to fix.
