No Signal

Epson Projector

Severity: Moderate

What it means

Epson projector No Signal means the selected input has no active video source.
Check the correct input is selected, the HDMI or VGA cable is firmly connected, and the source device is powered on and outputting video.

How to Fix It

  1. Verify the source device is on and outputting video

Ensure the connected device (laptop, PC, Blu-ray player, streaming box) is powered on and not in sleep mode.
A device in sleep mode sends no video signal to the projector.

  2. Select the correct input on the projector

Press the Source Search button on the Epson remote, or press the specific input button (HDMI, PC, Video).
If the projector is set to HDMI 1 but the device is connected to HDMI 2, it shows No Signal.

  3. Reseat the HDMI or VGA cable

Unplug the cable from both the projector and the source device.
Wait 10 seconds and reconnect firmly.
Loose connections are one of the most common causes of No Signal on projectors.

  4. Try a different cable

HDMI cables can fail or degrade over time.
Try a different HDMI cable, ideally a certified High Speed HDMI cable, to rule out cable failure as the cause.

  5. Enable display output on the laptop

On a Windows laptop, press Win + P and select Duplicate or Extend.
On a Mac, go to System Settings > Displays > Mirror Displays.
Some laptops disable external output by default.

  6. Check the resolution and refresh rate

If the source device is outputting a resolution or refresh rate the projector does not support (e.g. 4K on a 1080p projector), No Signal can appear.
Try setting the source to 1080p 60Hz.

This confirms the HDMI cable, HDMI port on the source, or the HDMI handshake protocol is the issue.
Try a different HDMI cable.
If still failing, use VGA as a temporary workaround.

Epson projector No Signal after a Mac OS update?

macOS updates sometimes reset display output preferences.
Go to System Settings > Displays and re-enable Mirror Displays or Extend Display.
