H1
Frigidaire Refrigerator
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
Frigidaire fridge H1 error means the freezer temperature has risen above a safe limit.
Press any button to silence the alarm, then check the cause — open door, large warm food load, power outage, or a genuine cooling fault.
Affected Models
- Frigidaire French Door Refrigerator
- Frigidaire Side-by-Side Refrigerator
- Frigidaire Top Freezer Refrigerator

Common Causes
- Freezer door left open or not sealing properly
- Large quantity of warm food added raising the temperature
- Power outage allowing temperature to rise
- Defrost system failure causing ice build-up on the evaporator
- Evaporator fan failed — cold air not circulating
- Compressor fault
How to Fix It
-
Press any control button to acknowledge and silence the alarm.
H1 appears as an alert — press any button on the control panel to acknowledge it.
The alarm will remain until the freezer temperature drops back to the set level. -
Check that the freezer door is fully closed.
Open and firmly close the freezer door.
Check that nothing inside the freezer is preventing the door from sealing.
Inspect the door gasket for tears or sections that are not sealing. -
Allow the freezer to recover.
After a door left open or a power outage, H1 will clear once the freezer returns to its set temperature.
Keep the freezer closed for 2–4 hours.
Do not add warm food until H1 clears. -
Check for a defrost fault.
If H1 recurs without an obvious cause, remove the rear panel inside the freezer.
A solid sheet of ice on the evaporator confirms a defrost failure.
Manually defrost by unplugging for 24 hours, then restart.
When to Call a Professional
If H1 persists with the doors closed for 4 hours with no warm food added and no recent power outage, the freezer has a genuine cooling fault — call a Frigidaire-authorised technician.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frigidaire H1 error after a power cut — is my food safe?
Food in a closed freezer remains safe for up to 4 hours during a power outage if the door stays closed. After power is restored and H1 appears, check the freezer temperature with a thermometer. Food that has partially thawed but is still below 4°C can be refrozen. Discard anything that has fully thawed.
How is Frigidaire H1 different from the HI alarm on the fridge section?
H1 applies to the freezer compartment temperature alarm. Some Frigidaire models show a similar HI alarm for the fresh food (fridge) section. Both indicate the respective compartment is above the safe temperature limit. The diagnostic and reset steps are the same for both.
