Honeywell Home Security Alarm

Severity: Moderate

What it means

Honeywell Home alarm FC error (Failure to Communicate) means the alarm panel cannot reach the monitoring centre over the telephone line, broadband, or cellular path.
Check the communication path and restart the panel.

How to Fix It

  1. Check the telephone line connection

For panels using a landline connection, verify the telephone cable is firmly plugged into the panel and the wall socket.
Test the phone line with a handset to confirm it is active.

  2. Check the broadband or IP module connection

If the panel uses a broadband communicator (IP module), ensure the Ethernet cable is connected and the router is working.
Check that the router has an active internet connection.

  3. Check the cellular communicator

If the system uses a cellular module (GSM/LTE communicator), check the LED on the communicator for signal status.
Poor mobile signal in the building can cause persistent FC errors.

  4. Power cycle the alarm panel

Disconnect the panel from the mains (transformer) and remove the backup battery from inside the panel.
Wait 60 seconds and restore power.
Allow 5 minutes for the panel to restart and re-establish its communication path.

  5. Contact your monitoring centre

Call your alarm monitoring company and report the FC error.
They can confirm whether they are receiving signals from the panel or whether the issue is on their receiving end (e.g. their receiver is offline).

  6. Check account details

FC can appear if the monitoring account is suspended or the monitoring phone number or IP address in the panel is outdated.
Confirm with your monitoring company that account details are current.

Frequently Asked Questions

Honeywell Home alarm FC error but alarm still works locally — is the system safe?

The alarm can still detect intrusions and sound the local siren with FC active.
However, the monitoring centre will not receive alerts, so police will not be dispatched automatically during an event.

FC error appeared after internet provider changed — is it related?

Yes.
If the panel uses an IP communicator, a new router IP address, VLAN settings, or changed port forwarding rules can prevent the panel from reaching the monitoring centre.
Your installer may need to update the IP communicator settings.

Honeywell Home alarm FC error cleared by itself — should I investigate?

Yes.
A self-clearing FC indicates a temporary communication path interruption.
Check the communication path (phone line, broadband, or cellular) for intermittent issues.
Repeated self-clearing FC events should be investigated by your alarm company.
