032
Roku Streaming Device
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Error 032 means two devices on your home network have been assigned the same IP address. Your Roku and another device are both trying to use the same network address at the same time. Restarting your router usually resolves this automatically within minutes.
Affected Models
- Roku Express
- Roku Streaming Stick
- Roku Ultra
- Roku Premiere
- Roku Express 4K+
- Roku Streaming Stick 4K+
Common Causes
- The router's DHCP server assigned the same IP address to two different devices at the same time
- Another device on the network was manually assigned a static IP that conflicts with Roku's assigned address
- A second router or access point on the network is assigning IP addresses in the same range as the main router
- Roku was configured with a manual (static) IP address that is already in use by another device
- The router's DHCP lease table is full or corrupted, causing it to recycle IP addresses incorrectly
How to Fix It
-
Unplug your Wi-Fi router from the wall. Wait 60 seconds — longer than usual — to ensure the DHCP lease table fully clears.
A full minute gives the router time to reset its IP assignment records and start fresh.
-
Plug the router back in and wait 2 minutes for it to fully reconnect to the internet and reassign addresses to all devices.
When it restarts, the router will assign fresh, non-conflicting IP addresses to all devices including Roku.
-
Restart your Roku (Settings > System > System Restart) to force it to request a new IP address from the router.
Roku will send a DHCP request to the router on startup and receive a new, non-conflicting address.
-
Check if Roku is set to a manual IP address. Go to Settings > Network > About. If it shows a manually assigned IP, switch to automatic DHCP at Settings > Network > Set up connection.
A manual IP is fine as long as it does not conflict. But automatic (DHCP) is simpler and eliminates this error permanently.
-
If the error keeps coming back, log into your router's admin page and increase the DHCP pool size, or assign Roku a reserved IP address tied to its MAC address.
Reserving Roku's IP ensures it always gets the same address without ever conflicting with other devices. Your router's admin guide explains how to do this.
When to Call a Professional
Error 032 is almost always fixed by restarting the router. No hardware repair is required. If conflicts keep happening, a static IP assignment or DHCP range adjustment in the router settings will permanently solve it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an IP address conflict in plain English?
Think of an IP address like a house number on a street. If two houses had the same number, mail deliverers would not know which one to go to. An IP conflict is the same idea — two devices with the same address confuse your router, so neither can communicate properly.
Will an IP conflict affect other devices besides Roku?
Yes. Both devices involved in the conflict will experience connection problems. The other device — whatever it is — will also lose internet access or behave erratically until the conflict is resolved. Restarting the router fixes both devices at once.
Can I prevent IP conflicts from happening again?
Yes. The easiest way is to log into your router and reserve a specific IP address for your Roku based on its MAC address. This is called a DHCP reservation or static DHCP lease. Your router will always give Roku the same address and never assign it to another device.
