Offline
Wemo Smart Plug
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Wemo smart plug offline means it has lost its Wi-Fi connection.
Unplug it for 10 seconds, plug back in, and allow 60 seconds to reconnect.
If it stays offline, restart the router and check the Wi-Fi signal strength at the plug's location.
How to Fix It
-
Restart the Wemo plug
Unplug the Wemo device from the wall, wait 10 seconds, and plug back in.
Allow 60–90 seconds for the plug to reconnect to Wi-Fi and check in with the Wemo cloud.
The LED indicator should turn solid white or blue when connected. -
Restart the router
Unplug your router for 30 seconds, plug back in, and wait for the internet connection to fully restore.
Then restart the Wemo plug as above. -
Check Wi-Fi signal strength
Wemo plugs require a reliable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal.
A signal that is too weak at the plug's location causes frequent offline events.
Move the plug closer to the router temporarily — if it stays online, the original location needs a Wi-Fi extender. -
Check the Wemo app for update prompts
Outdated Wemo firmware can cause connectivity issues.
Open the Wemo app, select the device, and check whether a firmware update is available.
Apply any pending update. -
Factory reset and re-add the Wemo plug
If the plug remains offline, factory reset it by inserting a pin into the reset button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes.
Then re-add it in the Wemo app by tapping + > Add a new Wemo and following the setup steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Wemo plug offline only at night — cause?
Wemo plugs going offline at night often coincides with router software updates or channel changes that the router applies during off-peak hours.
Check your router's scheduled maintenance settings and disable overnight updates if possible.
Wemo plug LED is solid but app shows offline — why?
A solid Wemo LED indicates the plug is powered but the app may be out of sync with the actual device state.
Close and reopen the Wemo app to force a refresh.
If offline persists, the plug has lost its cloud connection despite having local network access.
Wemo plug keeps going offline after every router restart — how to fix?
This usually means the router assigns a new IP address to the Wemo plug via DHCP each time.
Log into your router admin page and assign a static IP (DHCP reservation) to the Wemo plug using its MAC address.
This prevents the plug from being confused by IP changes.
