HDMI ARC
Samsung Soundbar
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
Samsung soundbar HDMI ARC not working is caused by Anynet+ being disabled on the TV, using a non-ARC HDMI port, or an older cable that does not support ARC.
Enable Anynet+ and use the ARC-labelled HDMI port.
How to Fix It
-
Use the HDMI ARC port
Only the HDMI port labelled ARC (often HDMI 2 or HDMI 3) supports audio return.
Using a regular HDMI port passes video only — no audio reaches the soundbar. -
Enable Anynet+ on the TV
On Samsung TV: Settings > General > External Device Manager > Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) > On.
Without Anynet+ the ARC handshake between TV and soundbar cannot complete. -
Set Sound Output to HDMI ARC
Go to TV Settings > Sound > Sound Output and select your soundbar.
If this option is greyed out, Anynet+ is not enabled or the ARC handshake has not yet completed. -
Use a High Speed HDMI cable
Standard HDMI cables may not carry the ARC audio signal.
Use a cable rated High Speed HDMI or HDMI 2.0.
Older or cheap cables often cause ARC to fail silently. -
Power cycle both devices
Unplug the soundbar from the wall for 30 seconds.
Reconnect the HDMI cable, power on the TV first, then the soundbar.
Allow 20 seconds for ARC to negotiate. -
Reset the soundbar
Hold the Off button on the soundbar for 5 seconds until INIT appears.
Reconnect HDMI and test — this forces a clean ARC negotiation from scratch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Samsung soundbar HDMI ARC keeps disconnecting?
Intermittent ARC drops are usually caused by cable quality.
Try a certified Premium High Speed HDMI cable.
Also check for Samsung TV firmware updates in Settings > Support > Software Update.
Can I use a regular HDMI port for the soundbar?
No.
Regular HDMI ports only carry video to the TV.
Audio return requires the ARC-labelled port (or eARC on newer TVs) for the signal to travel back to the soundbar.
Anynet+ is on but soundbar still not detected via ARC?
Try a different HDMI cable first.
If that fails, reset the soundbar to factory defaults (hold Off for 5 seconds), then reconnect and re-test the ARC link.
