How to Fix It

  1. Open the door and redistribute the laundry.

    Pull clothes apart and spread them evenly around the drum.
    Single heavy items like jeans or towels wrapped around each other are the most common cause of UE.

  2. Check the load size.

    Very small loads of one or two items cannot balance.
    Add a couple of similar-weight items, or switch to a hand-wash or delicate cycle for single garments.

  3. Level the washing machine.

    Place a spirit level on top of the machine.
    Adjust the four levelling feet underneath until the machine is perfectly level front-to-back and side-to-side.
    Lock the feet with the jam nuts when done.

  4. Restart the spin cycle.

    Select Spin Only and run at a lower speed (800–1000 RPM) first.
    If it completes without UE, gradually increase the spin speed in future washes.

Why does my LG washer show UE only on fast spin speeds?

At high RPM the washer is more sensitive to imbalance. A load that passes at 800 RPM may throw a UE at 1400 RPM. Run at a lower spin speed, or add a small towel to help balance a light load.
